Are you still planning your summer trip with your friends? You might want to give the Camotes Island a try!
Camotes Island is one of the treasures in Cebu. This has gained popularity not just in Cebu but also in the Visayan region because of its white sand beaches and the underground caves found on the island. The island is about 2 hours away by boat from the mainland.
The island is composed of four towns namely Poro, Tudela, San Francisco, and Pilar. It is just a small laid back island but a pure paradise. Camotes island is one of the places that tourist visit during summer.
What to do in Camotes Island?
Go Cliff Jumping at Buho Rock
If you are in for an extreme adventure, you can go cliff jumping in Buho Rock. For Php 20.00, you can jump on a cliff for as high as 40 ft all day as long as the tide is high. Since I don’t know how to swim, I just enjoyed watching my colleagues as they went through the heart-pounding jump. Observe extra care in jumping to avoid accidents. Sadly, one of my friends had an accident and was having a hard time to walk after that. Thank God, she’s fine now.
Swim at Timubo Cave’s Clear Waters
It was actually my first time going in and swimming inside a cave. Me, being a coward, all thoughts and expectations are running inside my crazy mind but everything was the opposite. Timubo Cave has a clear water inside where you can go for a swim. The water is amazingly cool and refreshing. Entrance fee would be Php 20.00.
Visit Paraiso Cave
Paraiso Cave is just like Timubo Cave except that Paraiso has the look of man-made because of the ongoing reconstruction when we get there. The pool is a lot smaller that Timubo and the water are not as clear. The entrance fee is between Php 20.00 t0 Pp 25.00.
Enjoy the White Sand Beach
There are a lot of beach resorts on the island and the most popular are the Santiago Bay and Mangodlong Paradise Resort. I was not able to visit these resorts personally but the place hat we stayed in has a long stretch of shore and the sand is white just the same.
Kayaking in Lake Danao
Lake Danao is a 700-hectare waterscape that offers activities like kayaking and fishing. The calm and serene water is perfect for these activities. You can even try horseback riding for those who don’t want to try kayaking in the largest lake in the Visayas region or just take a picnic. Kayak cost Php 50.00 per head.
How to get there?
If you came from Cebu City, you can ride a jeepney or a bus for not more than Php 30.00. Travel time would be approximately 1 hour. You can save more time if you have your own private vehicle. There are boats in Danao Port that are bound for Camotes island, boat fare would be Php 180.00. Once you get to the island, there are motorcycle or habal-habal can transfer you to resorts for Php 50.00 per head. Click here for more details on how to go there!
