November is coming and aside from All Saint’s Day and the Soul’s Day, Oponganons are very much ecstatic about the most awaited Fiesta Celebration.
The Virgen de la Regla Fiesta celebration is held every 20th and 21st of November. This is to celebrate the local’s devotion to the Virgen de la Regla or Birhen sa Regla.
I was raised and still reside in Opon and I’ve witnessed the flood of people during Birhen sa Regla’s feast day. Mind you, these visitors from different places don’t just come to the island for the sumptuous food offered by friends but most of them are devotees of the Birhen sa Regla.
Yearly, devotees visit her shrine to fulfill their promise or panaad in dialect whether it rains or it shines. Speaking of which, rain never misses during the fiesta.
BE FIESTA READY!!!
You might think, mamista ra ko, why get ready?
Nope, if you plan to visit friends or if you are new in Lapu-Lapu City, heed my advice. Get ready. As I’ve mentioned above, people will flood especially in the Opon Market area where tha Birhen sa Regla church is located.
Get ready for the heavy traffic since there will be roads that will be closed for the celebration. Get ready to walk. I suggest you wear comfortable footwear and exercise your feet ahead of time. Because of the heavy traffic, you sure might want and prefer to walk your way if you can. Lastly, get ready to have fun!
The Lapu-Lapu City government added events and activities to add fun and excitement to the fiesta.
Below is the Schedule of activities for the 2017 Fiesta Celebration.
