Are you a fan of the ocean and everything underneath? I am too, except the fact that I can’t really swim. Therefore, I can’t do snorkeling or scuba diving, as if I have the financial capacity, as much as I’d love to.
We were enjoying our lunch just outside Ogtong Cave when my friends and I are discussing the place that we should visit next. The local food stall owner then suggested visiting Guiwanon Ocean Park. It piqued my interest and so we decided to make it our next stop.
It was actually quiet as we got there. No other customers other than us. As we waited for the guide while he prepares the boats, we were talking about the possibilities as to why the business was slow. One of my friends suggested that I write about the place in my blog. It was a good suggestion actually and I hoped that somehow, this could help.
The said Ocean Park was a project of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the said barangay.
Barangay Guiwanon is located in the municipality of Bantayan, it took us 15-20 minutes to get there since Ogtong Cave is in Sta. Fe. It was quite a ride. We asked the locals for directions a lot of times. Lucky us, the last guy that we asked for directions was a member of the Ocean Park and he assisted us to the Ocean Park.
As of now, the Ocean Park has four glass bottom flatboats that can accommodate 4-5 persons as per the guide. These flatboats will be pulled by another pump boat to the deeper side of the ocean to showcase the different corals and marine life in Bantayan.
It was a new experience for me and my friends. The look on our faces shows how we enjoyed the ride. I feel like a little kid witnessing the different sea creatures and their habitats. It was amazing.
Guiwanon Ocean Park also has a floating cottage in the middle of the ocean. Your guide will bring you there if you want to take a swim or just simply enjoy a picnic in the middle of the ocean.
The coral reef viewing costs Php 300.00 per boat. It is actually cheap when you think of it. We expected it to reach about Php 500.00.
How to get there?
From the center of the municipality of Bantayan, you need to drive to Barangay Guiwanon, just follow the main road. Your landmark would be the old Coliseum on your right side. Just a few meters away, turn left. They have a small signage for the Ocean Park and a signage for Barangay Guiwanon on your left side, across it is a make-shift basketball court.
