Okay, so before I start, I want to make it clear that this is just based on my own opinion and based on the dramas that I have watched from January up to date this year.
Korean dramas are now being more appreciated in the country more than the previous years. As what I have observed, more Filipinos are now open about the word Kdrama or Kpop.
Kdrama lovers know that once you get in, there is no getting out. Me for one is obsessed and addicted to these cute and kilig vibes that Kdrama brings.
So I’ve listed 5 Korean dramas from January up to now that left a big impact on me. I know, 5 is never enough but dude, I don’t want to make my post 3 pages long. LOL
Touch Your Heart
Cast: Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In Na
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Law, Life, Romance
Aired: February 2019
Plot: Oh Yoon Seo (Yoo In Na), a popular but bad actress gets involved in a scandal. Her acting career declines precipitously. Wanting to play the lead female role for a drama series, with the hope of reviving her career, she needs to gain experience by working as a secretary to Kwon Jung Rook (Lee Dong Wook) for a few months.
Review: I am one of those fans waiting for this reunion. I have fallen in love with their chemistry in Goblin and thankful that they got a chance to show it again thru this series. Yoo In Na’s acting is excellent considering this is her first lead role. I would say that she shined in this series but never outshining Lee Dong Wook’s acting expertise. The plot makes me kilig because of the innocence towards love and relationship of the main characters.
Romance Is A Bonus Book
Cast: Lee Jong Suk, Lee Na Young
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Life, Romance
Aired: January 2019
Plot: Making a comeback after nine years of being a housewife, Kang Dan-Yi (Lee Na Young) joins her childhood friend, Cha Eun Ho (Lee Jong Suk), a genius writer and chief editor, at his publishing company. They begin to develop romantic feelings for each other despite the age difference.
Review: For me, this is a 10 out of 10. I mean, it’s Lee Jong Suk everyone! The man behind no. 4! Kidding aside, the drama has a great storyline because it’s never really impossible to fall in love with your best friend. And also we all know that LJS is a master kisser! LOL. A must watch.
My First First Love
Cast: Ji Soo Chae Yeon, Jung Jin Young
Genre: Drama, Friendship, Romance, youth
Aired: April 2019
Plot: In this coming of age story, 20 years old group of friends unexpectedly live together for different reasons. Three of them was caught up in a love triangle.
Review: This is just a short drama thus for me, it seems like that things in the drama happen fast. It is simple and a bit funny. I would still recommend it though especially to those Kdrama newbies.
He Is Psychometric
Cast: Park Jin Young, Shin Ye Eun, Kim Kwon
Genre: Comdey, Drama, Fantasy, Mystery, Romance, Supernatural, Thriller
Aired: March 2019
Plot: A boy with psychometric ability meets a girl who works hard to hide her scars and pretend to live perfectly. Together they try to fix, heal, grow and find out the truth about their past.
Review: I love this drama. The actors give justice to the characters and the characters are just what you needed with a slight bit of romance. I love the plot and also the plot twists. This is another must watch for me.
Her Private Life
Cast: Kim Jae Wook, Park Min Young
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Friendship, Life, romance
Aired: April 2019
Plot: A talented gallery curator is doing her best to hide the fact that she is a fangirl underneath her professional veneer. Her new boss is strict and who barely smiles, became a passionate fanboy of her.
Review: The series is on its final 2 episodes as of writing but this definitely belongs to my favorite Kdrama list. Aside from the fact that the female protagonist is a fangirl who likes an idol group, just like me (Oh, I love you BTOB), the acting was superb and excellent. Also, we can’t deny the fact that Kim Jae Wook is so freakin’ hot with his character as a gallery director and painter.
There you go chinggudeul, my top 5 kdrama on the first half of 2019.
